Trig Functions Derivative Formulas
Derivative Formulas of Trigonometric Functions
The differentiation formulas of the six trigonometric functions are listed below:
- sin x = cos x
- cos x = -sin x
- tan x = sec2 x
- csc x = -cot x csc x
- sec x = sec x tan x
- cot x = -csc2 x
Finding the Derivative of a Trigonometric Function
Finding the derivative of a trigonometric function involves the use of limits. Suppose the derivative of sin x can be calculated as given below:
Let f(x) = sin x
Then, the derivative of f(x) can be found as follows:
f'(x) = limh->0 [f(x + h) - f(x)]/h
Using the limit definition of the derivative, we can find the derivatives of the other trigonometric functions.
