Southern California Struck by Second Earthquake in Three Days
7.1 Quake Rocks Region, Causing Fires and Damage
Another Strong Quake Hits Los Angeles Area
A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck Southern California on Friday night, rocking the Los Angeles region and causing significant damage. The quake hit 11 miles northeast of the city of Ridgecrest and was followed by multiple fires. The US Geological Survey reported a 4.9 magnitude quake with an epicenter near Barstow on Monday afternoon.
The region has been experiencing a series of earthquakes in recent days, including a 4.6 magnitude quake on Friday and a 4.9 magnitude quake on Monday. The swarm of earthquakes has raised concerns about the potential for a larger, more damaging event.
The 7.1 earthquake caused widespread damage, particularly in the city of Ridgecrest, where many buildings were damaged or destroyed. Several fires were also reported, including a large fire that burned multiple homes and businesses.
The earthquake was felt throughout Southern California, including in the Los Angeles area. People reported feeling the quake as far away as San Diego and Las Vegas.
The earthquake is the largest to hit Southern California in decades. It is also the largest earthquake to hit the Los Angeles region since the 1994 Northridge earthquake, which caused significant damage and killed 57 people.
The earthquake swarm is expected to continue for some time, and scientists are urging residents to be prepared for additional quakes.
